The umbrella has now been successfully mounted on the metal backpack, so construction of Atlatl can move forward. My engineer friend Paul helped me bend a thin aluminum bar into a ring shape, which we attached to the umbrella with glue and cable ties, and to the backpack with bolts. The whole thing is now really solid and will be able to support a great deal of weight. This solution was partially inspired by a wearable puppet stage that Phil Arnold performed with at the 2009 Puppets Up! festival. Figuring out the right height for the umbrella was difficult, because it had to be in exactly the right position for me to reach up through the hole and perform Moss sitting on top of it. I feel like a cosmonaut in this thing. |
